TREVOR KING
|
It
is with great sadness that the club note the untimely death of Trevor
King, father of rugby chairman Adam King, and a man who played a large
part in shaping the development of HRFC in its early years. Trevor
joined the club in its infancy in the late 50s, after a playing career
‘up north’ with Hinckley (now Midlands 1), Nottingham University, the
UAU (now England Students) and Notts/Lincs/Derby county. He captained the
1st XV at Havant between 1958 and 1962. Following
his playing retirement, he worked tirelessly to break down the old school
tie act in his role as fixture secretary, and, as the playing strength of
the club improved, he was able to improve the fixture list, culminating in
negotiating the club into the Seven Counties Merit Table, which we won,
paving the way for the RFU to place us in Area League South when the
leagues started in 87/88. Trevor continued as fixture secretary for some years, as well as being Chairman of Selectors, before retiring behind the barriers to watch come the late 80s.
He will be sadly missed.
